Diversification Principles

Diversification seeks to reduce reliance on any single outcome. Learn what it can and cannot achieve within a modern investment portfolio.

The purpose of diversification

Spreading exposure across assets, sectors, geographies, or strategies can reduce the impact of any one investment’s poor performance.

Correlation is not constant

Assets that appear diversifying in calm markets may move together during stress. Diversification reduces some risks; it does not eliminate loss.

False diversification

Holding many similar positions can create concentration in disguise. True diversification considers underlying drivers of risk and return.

Implementation at Opus
